  • Emma Lost Grandma

    Joy Cummings

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, March 2, 2014)
Four-year-old Emma loves playing with her puppy, helping her mommy, and watching the clouds outside. But most of all, she loves visiting her grandma’s house—where it always smells like sugar cookies, and Grandma makes her feel like the most special little girl in the world. One day, Mommy is crying, and she tells Emma that Grandma is gone. This makes Emma sad, confused, and angry. Why isn’t anyone looking for Grandma so they can take care of her? Maybe she’s under the bed, or in the closet, or somewhere outside. But Mommy explains that Grandma was very sick and died—and that means Emma won’t be able to see her anymore. She explains that it’s okay to be sad and cry, and to miss someone who has died. For a while, Emma feels sad—even while playing with her puppy, and when helping her mommy. But eventually she experiences happiness again, when she realizes Grandma isn’t truly gone—but still lives inside Emma’s heart. And that remembering the great memories they shared is all it takes to smile once again!

  • 100 Selected Poems

    e. e. cummings

Paperback (Grove Press, March 15, 1954)
    e. e. cummings is one of my favorite poets, and this collection of his poems is a treat for any fan of his verse. The innovativeness of his language and the freshness of his images are continuously inspiring. It is sometimes hard to believe that most of these poems have been written well over half a century ago - they have all aged remarkably well. This is a testament to the simplicity and the permanence of the themes and ideas that e. e. cummings dealt with, and the original and inimitable way that he approached them. And if you are not already familiar with e. e. cummins' writings, this collection is one of the best places to start getting to know this great American poet.

  • THE ENORMOUS ROOM. With an Introduction by the Author.

    E.E. Cummings

Hardcover (Modern Library, Jan. 1, 1975)
The Enormous Room is a 1922 autobiographical novel by the poet and novelist E. E. Cummings about his temporary imprisonment in France during World War I. Cummings served as an ambulance driver during the war. In late August 1917 his friend and colleague, William Slater Brown (known in the book only as B.), were arrested by French authorities as a result of anti-war sentiments B. had expressed in some letters. When questioned, Cummings stood by his friend and was also arrested. The title of the book refers to the large room where Cummings slept beside thirty or so other prisoners. However, it also serves as an allegory for Cummings' mind and his memories of the prison — such that when he describes the many residents of his shared cell, they still live in the "enormous room" of his mind.
